We identify an approach which may convince the aliens to show tolerance towards humanity.
Before we can reach a compromise with the aliens, we must reach compromise among humanity. Agreeing on how to achieve this has been a far uglier business than anticipated, because the outcome we ultimately desire will require measures that take us beyond our moral comfort zone. Nevertheless, the path is decided. If we are to convince the invaders to negotiate, we can no longer wring our hands.
