About Tokamaks
Tokamaks is a Terra Invicta technology in Energy with a research cost of 25,000.
A new generation of toroidal fusion reactors and drives relying on magnetic confinement methods.
Our earlier successes with magnetic confinement fusion relied on massive magnetic mirrors arrayed in a line. While functional, the mass limited its capabilities as a long-range propulsion system. Our next step is to develop tokamaks, a Russian term for reactors that contain the fusion plasma within a magnetic torus. Holding high-energy plasma within magnetic fields has been likened to using wet spaghetti to hold melting gelatin, but with sufficient computer-aided management of the fields, we have been able to induce a net energy gain and can begin developing new propulsion systems that make use of it.
