We seek a means of blocking the aliens' mental control of human subjects.
Until we can ascertain some means of overcoming the aliens' chemosensory-based “mind-control”, we are ultimately doomed to be in their thrall. Needless to say, this is highly undesirable. But, armed with the knowledge that pherocytes are not a mere chemical signal, but in fact living cells, we have been able to formulate a treatment that shields humans from their effects. A vaccine, as it were - albeit one which requires regular booster shots in order to remain effective.
